Database Administrator


Responsibilities

Summary

The Database Administrator’s role is to install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for implementing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

  • Install and configure Sql Server instances.
  • Install Service Packs and Security updates for Sql Servers.
  • Maintain user accounts and permissions for New, Transferred and Terminated employees.
  • Implement, monitor and report on Sql Server Backup and Restore procedures.
  • Monitor databases for compliance and assist in resolution of non-compliance issues.
  • Perform change management requests, promoting approved items through the application development environments in accordance with National Interstate’s change management methodology.
  • Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity.
  • Create and execute installation scripts for changes to the development and QA environments (new databases, sorted procedures, net tables, and indexes).
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Provide stored procedure development assistance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems from a four-year college or university.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Good understanding of information processing principles and practices.
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting Microsoft SqlServer database servers.
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards and products as required.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
The position may be filled as a job level 7 for a candidate with additional qualifications.
