CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE --  NO RESPONSE IS REQUIRED

National Interstate Insurance Company, National Interstate Insurance Company of Hawaii, Inc., Great American Insurance Company and Great American Assurance Company (collectively, National Interstate) believe in protecting the confidentiality of information we receive about your company.  This notice is intended for those individuals and entities that inquire about or obtain insurance from National Interstate for commercial business purposes.  This notice describes our confidentiality policy and describes how we treat the information we receive about your company.

Collection and Use of Information.  We collect, retain and utilize information about your business to operate our business and to make products, services and other opportunities available to your business.  We obtain this information (Information) about you from a variety of sources, including:

  • Information we receive directly from your company in applications and other forms that you provide to us, and from our communications with your business, such as the company name, address, and financial statements.
  • Information we compile from your transactions or experiences with us or our affiliates, such as premiums and payment history and claims you make under your policy.
  • Information we receive from other sources, such as other insurers, government agencies, and other service providers.

How We Protect Information:  We currently incorporate a system of passwords and other appropriate physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect against unauthorized access to potentially confidential information.  We educate our employees about the terms of this confidentiality notice and the importance of the National Interstate confidentiality policy. All employees sign an agreement where they acknowledge their recognition, agreement and understanding of our Company policy concerning maintaining the confidentiality of our client’s Information. Employees who gain unauthorized access or who otherwise violate our confidentiality policy are subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Information Disclosure: Generally, Information about your company will not be disclosed by us to any external organization.  However, we may share certain Information about your company to our business partners, including reinsurers, affiliates and auditors.  In addition, Information about your company may be disclosed to third parties for certain purposes as authorized or required by law.

Access to and Correction of Information: Generally, upon your written request, we will make available Information for your review.  Information collected in connection with, or in anticipation of, any claim or legal proceeding will not be made available.  If you notify us that the Information is incorrect, we will review it.  If we agree, we will correct our records.  If we do not agree, you may submit a short statement of dispute, which we will include in any further disclosure of Information.
