Underwriter Trainee
Responsibilities
Summary
Responsible for assisting the Underwriting Manager or Product Manager with several facets of reviewing business opportunities and designing, implementing, servicing and marketing of programs to ensure growth and profitability.
- Review and price submissions to assess risk and build profitable book of business
- Involves analyzing risk information reports such as loss control reports and motor vehicle records, utilizing pricing models and industry knowledge to determine policy prices
- Involves analyzing and interpreting information within applications, loss run reports, insurance policies, procedural manuals and financial statements
- Decline submission or provide quote approved by supervisor for policy
- Monitors assigned accounts and obtains & reviews critical underwriting information and performance against expected losses
- Prepare routine reports and correspondence
- Work cooperatively with Underwriting, Marketing, Sales, Claims and Accounting staff to provide excellent service to our customers
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university required
- 1-2 years analysis experience
- Insurance related coursework helpful
- Demonstrated analytical & quantitative ability required
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts and procedure manuals
- Ability to write reports and defend conclusions
- PC's skils, including strong competence with databases, word processing and spreadsheets
- Excellent & professional communication skills for both internal and external interactions at all levels
- Insurance related continuing education a plus, example: CPCU, ARM
